Unlockable Mini Games

Often, fully completing a fantasy game will yield the most powerful weapons known to humankind. No further purpose exists once such a demigod has ascended.

However, more unique and Challenging opportunities may arise at the brave discretion of the game developer. The unlockable Arenas in The Lord of the Rings: Aragorns Quest on King Difficulty is a surprisingly satisfying outlier. In that obscure example, only the most diligent of completionist wanderers may discover unlockable treasures within such forgotten catacombs. Any development choice that encourages players to return to the game after completion is always a noble cause.

For instance, upon completing the Hard Difficulty Missions in Kingdom Under Fire; The Crusaders, players are granted access to two arcade-style mini games; which, are only available on the Original Xbox. The objective of these mini games are to survive while also scoring as much points as possible. Instead of commanding vast legions of troops, an individual unit is called upon to complete a Herculean task. An internal leaderboard is provided to test one's might against in this completely different style of gameplay.

On one gauntlet, a Human bowman lays complete waste to the Dark Legion. On the other gauntlet, an angelic Wyvern-riding Orc attempts to save its brethren from said massacre. Despite the juxtaposition between the strategic main story line and these arcade button-mashers, this new battlefield perspective is a worthwhile experience for any Bersian warlord. Test thy might!

County Carnival

The County Carnival mini game is unlocked by completing the Hard Difficulty Kendall campaign. Here, hoards of Dark Legions units are methodically used for target practice against a single, divinely dexterous Human bowman. Within this controlled environment, these rapid-fire arrows nearly halts the Dark Legion's onslaught. Alas, the ever-growing hoard eventually overcomes the arrow bombardment and crush the once great archer beyond dust.

Praise be to the holy bowman who can dethrone "PJS" from the in-game default leaderboard. For, even Lord Rigor could scarcely score a third of that immortal's incredible achievement. He kneels in fealty to thee.

Risky Raiders

The Risky Raiders mini game is unlocked by completing the Hard Difficulty Regnier campaign. Here, a heroic Orc rides a Wyvern to raid a Human camp that is reported to be using Dark Legion troops as cannon fodder. Orc comrades must be retrieved and saved from certain destruction whilst dodging aerial defenses. During the rescue attempts, there is enormous satisfaction in scorching dozens a Humans with vengeful Wyvern fire.

Risks were indeed taken throughout these raids, and Lord Rigor managed to over throw the mighty "MJD." The Dark Legion lives to fight another day after such courageously selfless efforts.
